Cleaning your dog’s ears

To clean your dog’s ears, follow these steps:

-Gather real cotton balls and a vet-approved ear cleaning solution
-Fill your dog’s ear canal with cleaner and gently massage around the base of the ear
-Allow your dog to vigorously shake their head and remove all of the solution from their ears
-Use the cotton balls to wipe out the waxy debris from the ears.
-Repeat steps 2, 3, and 4 several times until no further waxy debris is found on the cotton balls.

How can I prevent dog ear issues?

The best way to prevent ear infections in your dog is through prevention and identifying the root cause of the ear issues. Examine your dog’s ears on a regular basis, checking for inflammation, redness, discoloration, or unusual discharge. Frequently asked questions

What is a visit with Dutch like?

When booking a video call with a vet, you'll be asked a few questions about your pet’s health issue. Depending on the issue, you may also be asked to fill out a longer questionnaire about their symptoms and share photographs of them so our veterinarians can better understand what’s going on. You’ll then pick an appointment time that works best for you.

During your video call, one of our licensed veterinarians will talk to you about the symptoms your pet is experiencing, ask you questions, review your pet’s medical history if you’ve provided it, and answer any questions you have. The vet will ask to see your pet and their environment. And they may ask you to perform some simple checks on them if needed.

After your video call, the vet will send you a message with a custom treatment plan to help your pet feel better, including a link to buy any recommended prescription or over-the-counter medications. Place your order and we’ll ship it free.

Who is Dutch for?

Dutch is for dog and cat owners wanting a more cost effective and timely way to handle common pet issues. We eliminate the unnecessary vet visit as well as the stress related to getting your pet to the vet. The Dutch experience is designed to connect you with a vet via video call for general advice and recommended OTC product offerings. In certain states, vets may prescribe medication and therapeutics and our partner pharmacy will ship it right to your door.

What’s included in a Dutch membership?

All Dutch members have unlimited access to U.S.-licensed veterinarians over video chat and messaging for up to 5 pets. In many states, our vets can also prescribe medication for pets. Our vets will create a specialized treatment plan for your pet that can include prescription and/or over-the-counter medications, as well as behavioral modification, diet, and/or enrichment advice. A Dutch membership also includes free standard shipping and free, unlimited follow-ups with our vets through messaging and video calls. In addition, our Annual + Insurance plan includes $10,000 of emergency insurance. The cost of medication is not included in membership.
