Virtual vet care that’s good for pets, pet parents & vets

We believe that no pet should have to live with unaddressed health issues. This is why we created a virtual vet service to provide fast, affordable, science-backed care for pets with everyday health issues — while reducing the burden on overwhelmed local clinics. Together, we can help more pets get the care they need.

Why vets love working with Dutch

Whether you’re looking for better work-life balance, extra income, or an alternative to in-person practice, our platform empowers you to practice on your terms.

Increase access to care

Help pets get care they wouldn’t otherwise have access to due to lack of availability, care deserts, cost, anxiety, or something else — all while freeing up local vets for those who require in-person care.

Practice your way

We fully trust our vets to make decisions about pets’ well-being based on your expertise and experience — and there are no sales quotas for products.

Tap into the expertise of specialists

We work with board-certified specialists to create surveys and treatment protocols that help you provide the best care based on the latest science.

Get ongoing clinical and operational support

Our veterinary operations and clinical teams are here to support you via email or phone. We also host monthly rounds with opportunities for CE credit.

Use technology designed to make your job easier

Our proprietary electronic medical record (EMR) platform makes it easy for you to communicate with clients, create treatment plans, and keep records. And we update it based on vet feedback.

Have questions? We’ve got you covered

What is veterinary telemedicine?  How do I establish a VCPR?

Veterinary telemedicine involves pet parents sharing medical information about their pet with a veterinarian in a different location via electronic communications in order to have them evaluate, diagnose, consult, and provide treatment for the pet. This can be done in real time using phone calls and video chats. It can also be done via email, text messages, and uploaded photos and videos. In Dutch’s case, we connect patients to vets over video chat for live help as well as messaging through our member website. Our vets may also request photos and videos of pets in their home environment as part of their evaluation. Veterinary telemedicine allows our vets to establish a veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR) in states where it’s legal, much as they would during a traditional face-to-face appointment.

Who is Dutch?

Dutch is an online veterinary pet telehealth service, created by pet parents and board-certified veterinary specialists. We use a science-backed approach to provide pets relief for their everyday physical and behavioral health issues. Dutch connects licensed veterinarians over video chat and messaging to help pet parents get care for their dog or cat.  We also partner with pharmacies who can deliver prescription medication (in applicable states only) and over-the-counter treatments directly to our customers’ door. Dutch is a platform for our vets to practice medicine as they see fit.

Is veterinary telemedicine legal?

Some states do allow veterinarians to form a veterinary-client-patient-relationship (VCPR) remotely. Dutch has built telemedicine technologies to enable veterinarians to take care of pets remotely in connection with a number of conditions. Vets must be licensed in the state where the pet is located in order to provide care in accordance with state law.

How long is each consultation?

Each Zoom call is 10 minutes and our vets complete each consultation by inputting SOAP notes, a brief client summary, and if applicable, treatment recommendations.

How do I interact with clients?

Initial VCPR consultations are established through a Zoom video call. Follow-ups can be done through our messaging portal or a client can choose to schedule another call through their account.

What states does Dutch currently serve?

We offer general advice calls nationally and Rx treatment consultations in 34 states and counting. Send us an email at careers@dutch.com to learn more.

What animals does Dutch treat?

We currently treat dogs and cats.

How do I access client records?

All records and client interactions are stored and maintained within Dutch’s proprietary electronic medical record (EMR) software, which all vets that work with us have access to. Vets do not need to store their own records. All of that can be done through our EMR.

How do I protect my personal privacy (personal email, phone number) from clients?

All interactions with clients occur on the Dutch platform. You do not have to give out personal information such as your email or phone number to clients.

How am I compensated?

Depending on the state, vets are either paid hourly, or per consult and message. We target pay that equates to $80/hour based on your activity on the platform. This is a very competitive rate for telemedicine.

How many hours should I be expected to commit to the platform on a weekly basis?

We’re looking for a minimum of 5 hours on the platform on a weekly basis. Typically our vets work 5 to 20 hours depending on their schedule and customer demand in their respective state.

What’s required for me to treat patients on the platform?

We require an active license in the state(s) you’re practicing in. In states where we offer prescriptions, we also require a DEA license to prescribe gabapentin for behavior cases. In addition, we require a desktop computer, smartphone, and internet connection.

Does Dutch prescribe controlled substances?

We currently only give vets the option to prescribe gabapentin. All other controlled substances are not permitted for prescription use on our platform.

Do you offer liability insurance?

We do offer malpractice insurance and license protection in certain states.
