Apoquel is an oral prescription medication used to treat allergic skin diseases and itching in dogs. It goes right to the source and targets the inflammation that triggers the sensation to itch. Apoquel starts to relieve itchiness within 4 hours and works for up to 24 hours.

Common symptoms that Apoquel treats include:

• Frequent scratching, licking, biting, or chewing
• Excessive rolling, rubbing, or scooting
• Head shaking, ear discharge, or scratching at ears
• Hair loss
• Rash, redness, greasy skin, or scabs

Conditions that Apoquel treats include:

• Itching (pruritus)
• Flea allergies 
• Food allergies
• Environmental allergies
• Contact allergies
• Atopic dermatitis

Give orally to dogs with or without food following the dosage instructions from your veterinarian.

Oclacitinib

The active ingredient in Apoquel is considered safe, but may initially trigger some stomach side effects including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Long-term use should be carefully monitored as it may cause immunosuppressive diseases (infection, neoplasia).
